Alex Kim, M.D., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in complex gastrointestinal oncology and advanced cancer management for appendiceal cancer, colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, and mesothelioma. In addition, he leads a basic and translational research lab investigating the molecular mechanism of colorectal cancer peritoneal metastasis with a goal of identifying novel therapeutic targets. Moreover, he actively serves as a principal investigator on many clinical trials focusing on peritoneal metastasis.
Dr. Kim earned his medical degree and a doctoral degree in cellular and molecular biology at the University of Michigan. He completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Michigan Health System and received advanced training through a surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Prior to joining UTSW in 2024, Dr. Kim led a high volume program at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center - The James Cancer Hospital from 2020-2024.
