Dr. Powers is a surgical oncologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He is board-certified in both general surgery and surgical oncology. His clinical practice focuses on complex gastrointestinal cancers. He is an expert in the treatment of peritoneal surface malignancies with cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. His research has focused on improving cancer care coordination, treatment quality, and developing new treatments for peritoneal disease. His most recently funded research project is evaluating novel treatment approaches for colorectal peritoneal metastasis. He has led multiple initiatives involving clinical care, translational research, clinical trials, and trainee education.
