Jan Franko, MD, PhD, is an internationally recognized surgical oncologist and an authority on peritoneal surface malignancies with landmark publications in the Lancet Oncology and the Journal of Clinical Oncology. His clinical expertise spans minimally invasive surgery for esophagogastric malignancies, hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgery, and endocrine surgery — reflecting a broad and sophisticated surgical oncology practice.
In 2025, Dr. Franko assumed the role of Regional Director of Surgical Oncology for the RWJBH South Region, where he leads the organization of cancer surgical care and champions guideline-concordant practice. He actively contributes to the clinical education of medical students and resident physicians at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ.
Over a distinguished two-decade career, Dr. Franko has been a prolific contributor to both science and surgical education. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications — several of which have meaningfully shaped cancer staging and expanded therapeutic options. He served seven years as a residency program director and contributed to the American Board of Surgery EPA project from 2020 to 2024.
Complementing his clinical and academic accomplishments, Dr. Franko holds a Master of Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University, grounding his leadership in both evidence-based practice and real-world organizational strategy. He remains steadfastly committed to advancing oncology by integrating excellence, growth, and sustainability in complex healthcare organizations.
