Maria C. Russell, MD, is Associate Professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology of the Department of Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Russell is certified by the American Board of Surgery and started practicing with Emory Healthcare in 2012. She collaborates with several multidisciplinary teams at Winship Cancer Institute, Emory University Hospital Midtown and Grady Memorial Hospital to develop specialized plans for patients with complex gastrointestinal malignancies and hepatopancreatobiliary tumors.
Dr. Russell is also an expert in the performance of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemoperfusion (HIPEC), an innovative cancer treatment that delivers highly concentrated, heated chemotherapy directly to the abdomen, which allows for higher doses of chemotherapy than systemic chemotherapy delivery.
