Dr. Gusani is Chief, Section of Surgical Oncology at the Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center in Jacksonville, Florida. In this new role, he is helping to build a team devoted to the multidisciplinary care of all cancer patients in North Florida and beyond.
His clinical practice involves oncologic surgery for gastrointestinal tract, peritoneal, hepato-pancreato-biliary, adrenal, skin, and soft tissue malignancies, with a primary focus on diseases of the liver, pancreas, bile ducts, and upper GI tract.
Dr. Gusani is formerly Professor with Tenure in the Departments of Surgery, Medicine, and Public Health Sciences at the Penn State College of Medicine (2007-2020).
Dr. Gusani completed his Surgical Oncology training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), one of the world’s leaders in treatment of peritoneal malignancies. There he participated in several cytoreductive surgery / HIPEC procedures per week and was a key participant in maintaining the data for and publishing UPMCs extensive experiences in peritoneal surgery.
Together, he and Dr. Chouliaras have worked tirelessly since 2021 to initiate a new program for the multidisciplinary treatment of peritoneal surface malignancy (peritoneal cancers/tumors) offering a full range of options including cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC. Over the last 2 years they have created one of the foremost programs in the Southeast US.
