Dr. Sherif Abdel-Misih is a U.S. American Board of Surgery (ABS) certified general surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He has specialized training in cancer treatment after completing a Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) approved surgical oncology fellowship at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC)/Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital in 2010. The advanced surgical oncology training allowed for exposure to the multi-disciplinary management of complex clinical oncology with emphasis on surgical management. The opportunities and resources available at the OSUWMC/Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital led him to accept a faculty appointment within the division of surgical oncology in 2010 where he has continued his academic career.

Dr. Abdel-Misih is an assistant professor of surgery primarily pursuing the surgical care of gastrointestinal malignancies with collaborative clinical and translational research efforts aimed at peritoneal disease arising from gastrointestinal malignancies and peritoneal mesothelioma with the goal to improve patient outcomes. The program at the James Cancer Hospital performs approximately 30 cytoreductions with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) annually treating peritoneal disease from various gastrointestinal sites including appendiceal, colorectal, and gastric malignancies, as well as rare malignancies like peritoneal mesothelioma.

The Arthur G. James Cancer Center is one of only 46 NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the nation and in the most recent renewal earned the NCI’s highest ranking, “exceptional,” and received a five-year, $23 million NCI support grant. The NCI survey team stated that the OSUCCC – James “should serve as the model for other matrix university-based centers.” We combine the expertise of multiple disciplines and modalities including surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, and support services to offer our patients comprehensive treatment plans, innovative clinical trials, and pursue basic science and translational research in effort to improve patient outcomes.
