Tolutope Oyasiji, M.D., brings nearly three decades of experience to his role as medical director of surgical oncology at City of Hope® Cancer Center Atlanta . A renowned surgeon, Dr. Oyasiji treats multiple cancer types using leading-edge surgical techniques, including minimally invasive, laparoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures.

Dr. Oyasiji’s approach to caring for patients stems from a childhood experience: At age 12, he witnessed the positive impact that surgical intervention had on his grandfather’s life. In his own practice, he works to ensure that patients receive compassionate and innovative care and that they understand their diagnosis and treatment options every step of the way.

Dr. Oyasiji earned his medical degree at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, where he was born and raised, followed by a residency in general surgery with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He went on to complete a general surgery internship and residency at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, and a complex general surgical oncology fellowship training at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York. He also holds a master’s in health services administration from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and an advanced laparoscopic surgery diploma from the University of Strasbourg in France.

In his clinical work, Dr. Oyasiji treats a wide range of cancer types, including gastric, esophageal and gastrointestinal cancers, hepatopancreatobiliary cancers and peritoneal malignancies, including melanoma, squamous cell, basal cell and Merkel cell carcinomas and sarcomas. He has expertise in many minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures as well as complex operations such as cytoreductive surgery and hypothermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy y(HIPEC) procedures. A member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American and International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Associations, the Pancreas Club and the Society for Black Academic Surgeons, Dr. Oyasiji is also a diplomate of the Royal College of Surgeons in England and in Ireland. He has multiple publications and honors to his name, including two McLaren Health Care Research and Innovation Awards.
