Dr. Xu is an assistant professor within the Division of Colorectal Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center with a special interest in advanced or metastatic cancers originating from the appendix, colon, rectum, small intestine, and peritoneal surface and is an expert in treatment methods such as cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).
Dr. Xu earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He then completed a General Surgery Residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center where he also earned a Master's in Public Health degree and completed a clinical research fellowship at the Surgical Health Outcomes & Research Enterprise. He went on to complete a Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
In addition to his clinical work, he is an accomplished researcher with a focus on quality of cancer care delivery and outcomes. His work has resulted in numerous presentations at national and international research conferences and publications within prestigious peer-reviewed journals.
