Dr. Irene Rossmer is a surgical oncologist with Atlantic Medical Group. She is a specialist in the management of complex solid organ malignancies, particularly cancers of the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, colon, and rectum), liver and pancreas. Her particular area of interest and clinical expertise is in the management of peritoneal surface malignancies such as appendiceal neoplasms, mesothelioma, and metastatic colorectal cancer, among others, and the application of heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in treating these advanced and complex diseases.
Board certified in both general surgery and complex general surgical oncology, Dr. Rossmer has received multiple awards and honors for her clinical work and research. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and her research has been presented at multiple regional and national meetings.
Dr. Rossmer received her medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and she completed her surgical residency at the Columbia University Medical Center campus of New York Presbyterian Hospital. During this time, she spent 2 additional years dedicated to clinical research investigating quality of life and outcomes in pancreatic cancer after surgical resections, and for this body of work she was ultimately awarded the Blakemore Award for an outstanding body of research performed during residency. Following this, Dr. Rossmer went on to pursue a highly selective and competitive fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, one of the premier centers for cancer care in the United States and the world, where she gained additional expertise in treating peritoneal surface malignancies and the delivery of HIPEC.
Dr. Rossmer is professionally active and maintains membership in the Society of Surgical Oncology, the John Jones Surgical Society, and she is an active Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She is also fluent in both Russian and Spanish.
